Biography: Son of William L. Main; born Aberdeen, 8 August 1898. M.A., 1920. A.U.O.T.C. Private, 8th Cameron Highlanders, March 1917; commissioned, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 25 September 1917. Served-Home, 1917-18; France (attached to 5th Camerons), October-November 1918; Army of Occupation, Solingen, 1919. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant.
