Biography: Son of Lachlan MacKinnon; born Aberdeen, 9 September 1886. M.A., 1906; B.L. (dist.), 1908; LL.B., 1910. Enlisted, 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1903 (later 4th Gordon Highlanders (T.F.); commissioned, 1 August 1905. Officer Cadet, U Company, 4th Gordon Highlanders Mobilized, 4 August 1914. Attached No. 19, Officer Cadet Battalion; Senior Officers School, Aldershot; 14th (Service) Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Served-Home, 1914-15, 1915, 1917-18; France, February-June 1915, September 1915-December 1916, April 1918-May 1919. Final rank, Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel. Distinguished Service Order, Croix de Guerre. Two mentions in despatches, March 1918, June 1919.
