M.A. (I Classics), 1915; Simpson Greek Prize; Seafield Latin, Town Council Gold, Medals Private, 4th Gordon Highlanders, April 1915. Served with 6th Gordon Highlanders, 1st King's African Rifles; commissioned, 11th September 1915. Home, 1915-16; Central Africa, November 1916-March 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
