Biography: Son of James G. Downie; born Aberdeen, 25 April 1899. M.A. 1922; B.Sc. 1924. Private, 42nd Territorial Reserve Battalion, July 1917. Served with 40th T.R.B., 1/7th, 3rd Reserve, Gordon Highlanders. Home, 18 months; Abroad, 3 months. Final rank, Lieutenant-Corporal.
