Biography: Son of James A. Dewar; born Arbroath, 24 June 1866. M.B., 1887 ;M.D.(Hons.), 1890; B.Sc. (Public Health), Edinburgh, 1888; D.Sc, 1906. Commissioned, R.A.M.S., 1888. Boer War, 1900-01. Mobilized Lieutenant-Colonel, R.A.M.C. (Territorial), August 1914. Attached 51st Division, Northern Army; 57th Division. Served-Home, 1914-15, 1916-17; France, May 1915-March 1916, January 1917-January 1919. Final rank, Colonel. C.B. (Military), 1918. Four mentions in despatches, January 1916, January 1917, December 1917, March 1919.
