Regiment: H.M.S. Marmion, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve
Biography: Born Banff, 13 December 1895 ; educated at Cullen Public School and Fordyce Academy ; matriculated Aberdeen University, 1914; student in Medicine, 1914-15. He joined the Navy as a Sick Bay Steward, 3 July 1915, and before long was promoted Surgeon - Probationer. He served on board H.M.S. ''Marmion'', which was acting as a convoy in the North Sea, and went down with his ship, 21 October 1917 ; later the grateful testimony was received that ''he was highly thought of by his superior officers''. Brown had little time to make his mark at the University, but he brought with him the breezy, cheery nature of the dweller by the sea-board, ready and willing to bear all the blows and buffets that man or Nature might bring.
