Duthie, John Mitchell

Regiment: 5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders

Biography: Son of James R. Duthie; grocer, Fraserburgh ; born Aberdeen, 12 February 1898 ; educated Fraserburgh Academy; student in Medicine, 1915-16. He served in the O.T.C. whilst at the University and enlisted under the Derby Scheme at the close of the summer session 1916, joining the 5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders. After training at Ripon he left for France in February 1917 and fought on the Belgian frontier, till he was killed in action near Ypres, 31 July 1917. Even at school Duthie had shown himself a leader, and those who knew him well looked forward to the time when he would prove himself a leader of men, and life would call forth on high endeavour the energies and abilities which he possessed in such full measure.

Burial Details: Buried at New Irish Farm Cemetery, St. Jean, Plot 26, Row B, Grave 1.
