Biography: Son of Robert Howie; born Edinburgh, 23 February 1892. M.A. (III Ment.), 1914. Private, 3/4th Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, November 1915 ; commissioned, 25 January 1917. Served- Home, 3½ years; France, 6 months. Final rank, Lieutenant.
