First Bursar, 1904; Simpson Greek, Seafield Latin, Lyon, Jenkyns, Prizes; Town Council Gold Medal; Fullerton Scholarship, 1908. Indian Civil Service 1909. U Company, 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1904-08; Trooper, Mounted Infantry Nagpur Volunteer Rifles, 1910-17; 2nd Lieutenant, Indian Army Reserve of Officers, November 1917. Served-India, November 1917-March 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
