Biography: Son of Herbert A. Giles; born Swatow, China, 12 February 1877. Arts, 1894-95. 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Engineers, 1897. Served-France, July 1915-November 1917; Italy, November 1917-February. 1918 Final rank, Lieutenant-Colonel. D.S.O. Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel. Three mentions in despatches, June, December 1916, November 1917.
