Biography: Son of John D. Gawn; born Dudley, 15 February 1868. M.B., 1896. Gunner, 1887; Private, Rhodesian Volunteers, 1909; Private, National Reserve. Enlisted, R.A.M.C., 15 August 1914; commissioned, September 1914. Served - England, 3 years; France, Belgium, 11 months; Egypt, China, 4 months. Final rank, Captain. Military Cross. Croix de Guerre. Two mentions in despatches July, October, 1917.
