Biography: Son of Thomas Garland; born Ellon, 25 December 1852. Arts, 1869-71. Private, 2nd Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1868. Retired as Major, 1900. V.D. War work-Officer Commanding Volunteer Company, 1918. Recruiting Officer, N.E. of Aberdeenshire.
