Biography: Son of George Cownie; born Aberdeen, 26 December 1883. Law, 1910-11. Private, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 20 April 1916; commissioned, 27 March 1917. Served-Home, 1916-18; India, January 1918-December 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
