Biography
Philosopher and university teacher. Born Aberdeen 1714. Son of George Gordon, professor of oriental languages at King's Coll. Studied King's Coll. 1727-31. Graduated M.A. King's Coll 1731. Librarian and assistant regent at King's Coll. 1733-39. Humanist 1739-65. Regent 1765. Founded Gordon's Mill Farming Club 1758. Secretary of the Aberdeen Philosophical Society 1761-4, 1767-71. Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Honorary member of the Aberdeen Medical Society. Died Aberdeen 1797. Opposed unification of King's and Marischal.
