Knowledge transfer between academics and the Co-operative Education Trust Scotland creates a two-way flow and uptake of ideas for research, teaching, and commercialisation.
This collaboration provides mutual benefits for the Trust and for universities. Academics are able to draw on CETS expertise to incorporate the co-operative approach to enterprise into courses with an entrepreneurial focus. The Trust is able to tap into academic networks, knowledge, and pedagogic experience for the design of new materials tailored specifically to the higher education sector. To date the collaboration has given rise to grant income generation in the form of two more Knowledge Transfer Partnerships between the University of Aberdeen and co-operative businesses in Scotland sponsored by InnovateUK and other government funding organisations. It has stimulated innovative teaching about entrepreneurial processes in several Scottish universities, and it has led to the creation of new postgraduate research projects drawing on academic and business knowledge.
