Monitoring in Action - Facts and Figures

Why do we need to monitor equality information?

For some equality areas we are required by law to monitor the workforce. However, it is good equalities practice to be aware of the profile of the workforce and the student population. It is important so we can identify under-represented groups and seek to support our students and employees.

Where does the information go?

Information relating to gender, ethnicity, age and disability is collected and is stored securely either within the Human Resources function or through Student Portals. Students have access to the Portals and the information that is stored on them.

What if staff/students won't supply the information?

We can't and we won't force students or staff to supply information. However, we are under increasing pressure from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) to ensure that our figures are as comprehensive as possible. We hope that by requesting the information clearly and at appropriate times that we can ensure that the majority will respond.

What are our statistics?

The figures will be available in due course.
