Experiencing life abroad through a work placement demonstrates your adaptability and determination to future employers. You can develop language skills, increase your cultural awareness, and become more confident in new situations.
The Saltire Foundation
The University of Aberdeen works closely with the Saltire Foundation to provide opportunities for penultimate year students to undertake paid and supported UK and international placements. Recent Saltire students have worked in Scotland, New York, Florida, Houston, Singapore, Ghana and Austalia. The Saltire Foundation provides flights, accommodation and a weekly salary for overseas placements, and students are encouraged to blog about their experiences throughout. Successful completion of a Saltire Foundation placement will be included on your Enhanced Transcript.

Undertaking a work placement abroad - language barriers, cultural differences and contrasts in ways of working - ensure you learn more quickly than ever in an environment you'll never forget.

Other International Placement Opportunities
If you are interested in international work experience, it is a good idea to find out as much as you can before you commit yourself:
- Speak to students who have had international placement experience with the same organisation.
- Check what support and insurance is provided by the placement company.
You should also investigate in advance if you are liable for any costs, and whether you would need to pay before the placement starts.
