By participating you will:

  • gain confidence in how to source opportunities.
  • set goals to help you get the most out of your experience.
  • develop tools to review how your experience is going.
  • reflect on and articulate the experience and skills you have gained.
  • boost your employability.
  • gain recognition for your experience on your Enhanced Transcript.

How it works

The ABDNConnect Experience Programme is a structured programme facilitated via CareerConnect Pathways. Login with your university username and password. The Pathway will prompt you to complete a series of activities consisting of mini online courses, reflection exercises and a development plan.

To participate in the programme you are responsible for sourcing your own part-time, voluntary or internship opportunity. However, the first part of the Pathway provides you with a range of resources to help you with this. We also advertise opportunities via CareerConnect including those exclusive only to Aberdeen students,

You are expected to complete the Pathway fully and to the best of your ability to have your experience recognised on your Enhanced Transcript. The Careers and Employability Service is happy to support you at every stage.

Who can take part?

The ABDNConnect Experience Programme is available to all University of Aberdeen students and graduates from both our Aberdeen and Qatar campuses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access the Pathway?

Access the Pathway on CareerConnect.

I am volunteering in a role at the University, can I apply to ABDNConnect?

ABDNConnect is only applicable for volunteering roles outwith the University. Roles such as class representative, museum volunteering and lab assistants are not eligible for the programme. For volunteering roles within the University we recommend that you participate in the STAR Award.

No, participating in this programme does not guarantee you a job. The programme is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to source part-time jobs, volunteering experience and internships for yourself.

Is there funding available to support voluntary roles?

Currently we do not have any bursaries available to support voluntary roles. Any future bursary funding is limited and will be offered on a first come, first served basis.

The University of Aberdeen Development Trust occasionally has limited funding available to support students undertaking volunteering opportunities in charities and not-for-profit organisations.

How will this programme help me find a job?

The programme will guide you through a series of activities designed to teach you job searching strategies, how to access the hidden job market and how to stand out in applications. From this we hope you will feel confident in your ability to secure a job, internship or volunteering position.

How much time do I need to commit to the programme?

The Pathway is designed to run alongside your studies and volunteering, part-time or internship opportunity, can be done in your own time and and should not negatively impact your academic studies.

Where can I find opportunities?

The ABDNConnect Experience Programme contains mini career courses to help you learn how to source the right opportunity. These contain plenty of useful resources and tips to assist your search. Sign up to the Pathway on CareerConnect to access them.
