The InternPlus Programme has operated successfully since July 2016. Since its inception, it has seen over 70 University of Aberdeen undergraduate students complete an InternPlus internship giving them invaluable experience. The initiative offers students the opportunity to contribute to defined projects or activities within the University during term time, within a supervised and supportive environment which helps develop transferrable skills for future work or study. InternPlus students complete their internship part time (up to 15 hours per week) during the University’s academic year alongside their studies.
Eligibility
This initiative is available to enrolled students at the University of Aberdeen. Most of the projects are open to undergraduates who are scheduled to complete their course in 2025 or 2026. Two of the projects are open to postgraduate students who are scheduled to graduate in 2024. Please see the project descriptions below for eligibility information for each project.

Project title: "Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Education: Student Perceptions and Effective Support Strategies"
The Centre for Academic Development is looking for an intern who is passionate about the student learning experience and has an interest in carrying out research to understand students’ perception of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools in education. Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, an ability to work in a sensitive area, and convey a non-judgemental and supportive approach to understanding students’ experiences with GenAI. They should have an awareness of how to manage data in a confidential and professional manner, good analytical and research skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
Eligibility: Open to postgraduate students graduating in 2024 only.

This internship would be particularly suitable for students with an interest in information and data management, strong IT skills, and the capacity to take a strategic overview of the key components of asset management. A keen eye for detail and accuracy is required, along with strong organisational skills and the ability to work both with others and independently. The successful candidate will work with a range of colleagues in Estates and Facilities, gaining experience of working in a professional and friendly environment. The ability to summarise documents, create accurate records and work with different IT systems will be developed.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, creative and empathetic candidate who can use their communication skills to make people feel at ease sharing their experiences. You should feel confident in conducting interviews, writing, creating content for a range of audiences, and sharing your creative ideas. The InternPlus programme is only open to undergraduate students at the University of Aberdeen who expect to graduate in 2025 or 2026.

Widening access to collections is a key aim of Museums & Special Collections (MSC) and the University of Aberdeen. In partnership with Computing Science & Art History, MSC are looking to appoint an intern to assist with the upload of images to the online catalogue, through the creation of applications to automate curation tasks. This role would suit someone who is interested in digital humanities and is skilled in programming and problem solving.

Project title: "Enhancing the campus wayfinding experience"
Are you interested in getting involved in the next digital chapter of our campus? Are you looking for a project that will enhance day-to-day life of staff, students, and visitors, while also laying the foundation for elevating accessibility of the campus for those with additional needs? Then this joint project with Estates & Facilities and Digital is for you!
We are looking for a confident, independent student who is comfortable with architectural drawings, design software, and working with mapping focused software. The role involves collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders to develop digital online maps of our Old Aberdeen Campus that will form part of our public wayfinding experience.

Project title: "Marketing and social media intern"

This project will give you the opportunity to work on business process improvement within the university. You will be involved in a variety of business areas to research and make recommendations to support prioritisation of improvements that will benefit users, both staff and other stakeholders. You will learn new skills and experience in Continuous Improvement and Business Analysis that will be of advantage to you in your future career.

The Interfaith InternPlus is a great opportunity to contribute to building good inter faith relations on campus. This project aims to explore and engage with different faiths on campus to promote and develop good relationships and dialogue that celebrates our diversity as a university community. It would suit applicants who want to develop skills for dialogue and cooperation that encourage community where there is trust, respect, and cooperation between people of different faiths and beliefs. The Multi-faith chaplaincy values the contributions which individuals from different backgrounds and with different life experiences can bring to its work.

Project title: "Business revenue development, brand marketing and app messaging/ user engagement campaign"
Join the RockSalt team and lead the way on marketing our new loyalty and reward app to staff and students at the University of Aberdeen. We need someone with a strong understanding of social media channels and the ability to communicate effectively. Help us develop a successful sales strategy, engage with our customers and grow the Rocksalt brand on campus and beyond.

Emily Drouet was a student at the University of Aberdeen who took her life in 2016 following an abusive relationship with her partner. The Directorate of People is seeking an enthusiastic student to embark upon the Emily Drouet Internship which will support and enrich the University’s approach to combatting Gender-Based-Violence (GBV). The successful candidate will gain experience in research, event delivery, marketing, website editing, and the professional working environment, as well as having access to personal and professional development opportunities.

Project title: "Improving the digital accessibility of HR policies, procedures and documentation"
This internship is an exciting opportunity to support change within the HR team in relation to making its documents accessible to all. With Inclusion being of strategic importance to the University, the intern will be contributing to the University’s progress in this area. This internship would suit someone who can work well as part of a team, is comfortable working with IT systems and who is interested in human resources practice.

We are ideally looking for a candidate who can understand the parameters of the task, ie what is required to satisfy both the needs of external funding agencies and the accessibility needs of our students, explore creative solutions using the available technology and then provide clear instructions in a user-friendly format, which students can follow and complete with minimal confusion or difficulty.
Project title: "Changing Culture through Governance"
The Postgraduate Research School is seeking to appoint a forward thinking and driven intern with an interest in governance and developing positive cultures.
This exciting role would suit applicants with strong communication skills, interested in critically analysing internal governance structures and policies in order to develop sustainable sector-leading research culture changes.
Project title: "Civic University Engagement Support Coordinator"
Do you love community engagement? Do you want to play a part in shaping the University of Aberdeen’s civic contribution to the north east of Scotland? University of Aberdeen Museums & Special Collections is seeking to appoint an intern to assist with and learn how to digitise a wide range of items. This role would suit someone who is skilled in photography and is passionate about ensuring today’s history is available for future generations.
