Biography

Karen graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Business and Management and Geography from the University of Glasgow in 2013. She then went on to complete an MRes degree in Sociology and Research Methods, graduating with Distinction in 2014. Karen received her PhD in Management in 2018 from the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow. Her doctoral research involved a comparative study of work practices and employment relations in the UK and Sweden within a multinational retail firm. In February 2019, Karen was awarded the Adam Smith Business School Prize for PhD Excellence, recognising the significance of her thesis and its contribution to knowledge.

Prior to joining the University of Aberdeen Business School in 2018 as a Lecturer in Management Studies, Karen was a Research Assistant in Economic Democracy at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. Karen was a Visiting Scholar at the Desautels Faculty of Management at Montreal's McGill University in 2017. Karen also sits on the Board of Young Enterprise Grampian.
