Cheryl Dowie is an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in the School of Business at the University of Aberdeen. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Chartered Management and Business Educator. Her research philosophy is to incorporate many interdisciplinary perspectives in her research, which centres on negotiation/conflict management, group collaboration, business communication (intracultural, inter-cultural and cross-cultural), examining gender diversity in the workplace, and internationalisation strategies within higher education. At the University of Aberdeen, she is a member of the Senatus Academicus (or SENATE) and co-chairs the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee at the Business School.

Cheryl is an enthusiastic educator who likes inspiring her students. She has been nominated and has won Teaching Excellence Awards, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to enhance the academic lives of students and for creating an inclusive learning environment.

Prior to her transition into academia, Cheryl gained employment with Hewlett Packard, IBM, and Accenture, working on finance-based projects in the USA and the UK. Her professional career initially as a financial analyst and then as a transition management consultant (project management), exposed her to leading diverse teams successfully, collaborating with international clients, and understanding the need for goal-driven business communication. Cheryl has seven years of experience using ERP systems (SAP, IBM Websphere) and holds a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Having completed her DipABRSM in Music Performance (piano), she enjoys playing the piano and composing music in her free time.

Cheryl is keen to discuss new project collaborations and supervise potential PhD students.
