- How can I raise my organisation's on-campus profile with your students?
- As a small business, is engaging with you right for me?
- How can we meet students from specific subject areas? Where can I find information about the degrees your students are studying?
- How can we increase the number of applications for our recruitment campaigns?
- I’m interested in working collaboratively with academic programmes, and giving guest lectures, can I do this?
- I’m busy, but interested in placements, what are my options?
- What costs are involved?
We have a number of ways to do this that will meet your needs. For example, you can come onto campus to give a presentation, book a stand to meet students and promote yourselves, take part in our careers fairs, and advertise opportunities on CareerConnect. There is also the option to sponsor events, and offer free items and prizes. Otherwise we will work with you to tailor something specific. For more information on all of these options visit our Working with Students page.
Yes! We always want to work with smaller businesses and organisations, and have much experience of doing so. This is an opportunity for you to advertise any vacancies free of charge, and gain business, technical, strategic input to your company via student project work and engagement with taught sessions. We have microbusinesses and SMEs that have utilised student expertise on a consultancy basis, had digital media designed, literature reviews undertaken, and much more besides, and all with great outcomes. We also always value your input to student’s skills development and to understanding what we can do to engage small businesses on a wider basis.
We can liaise with relevant academic Schools to ensure you meet students most relevant to your needs, and we can also advertise and promote to these groups. Additionally, we can provide you with detailed information about our academic degrees so you can learn more about what is studied and what knowledge students will be attaining. To complement this, we can also give you a guide as to numbers of students coming through all years of study.
Advertising on CareerConnect is the best way to make students/ graduates aware of your opportunities. If you are disappointed with the level of interest that your job advert is attracting get in touch with the Careers Service and we will be happy to discuss how we can help you to generate more interest. In some circumstances we can offer a targeted email service. Delivering a presentation on-campus is often a good way to promote your opportunities to students.
We can liaise with our academic programmes and individual staff to bring you together to discuss your interests. We have routes into all academic Schools and most degree Programmes are very welcoming of external expertise and input. Students are very appreciative of ‘real world’ input and value the opportunity to engage. We have many examples of external individuals and organisations coming in to give guest lectures, run workshops, provide case study material, run half day sessions, arrange site-visits, and more. If you are interested in developing research, we can also facilitate this.
We appreciate that time is often in short supply, but we work hard to ensure you are provided with appropriate students to undertake the work, and the benefits to yourself and the students are rewarding. You can read more about our work placement scheme here, which is usually undertaken over Easter or summer for 3-12 weeks, or we can discuss the possibility of 12 month placements with you. You may also wish to consider a salary free Masters student to undertake a dedicated 3 month project as part of their degree. These are all very popular choices and you will receive University support throughout as well as receiving a useful outcome.
We want our students to benefit from your input, so unlike many other Universities we currently do not charge for the majority of our services. Depending upon the type of event/input you are planning, some executive rooms/venues incurs a charge, as does any hospitality. Advertising vacancies on CareerConnect is free although some premium packages have costs attached.
