The School of Biological Sciences offers a number of degree programmes relevant to students interested in plants – Plant Biology, Plant & Soil Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology and Environmental Science. We are renowned for our focus on "whole organism" biology. Our modern teaching laboratories in Aberdeen are complemented by Field Stations in Sutherland, the Black Isle and at the Ythan Estuary, which provide students with access to some of Scotland's most spectacular environments. With our student exchange programmes, student-led expeditions and active research in habitats from the Arctic to tropical rainforests, we offer students unique opportunities to study over-seas for part of their course.

Research in the Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences addresses the fundamental biological consequences of environmental change. We have international expertise in understanding and modelling the soil/microbe/plant interface, and the population and physiological responses of plants from habitats as diverse as the Arctic and tropical forests.
