Aberdeen in America - Spring/Summer 2019

Professor George Boyne met with Aberdeen alumni and friends in New York during his first visit to the Big Apple in his role as Principal and Vice-Chancellor in April.

Professor Boyne attended the board meeting of the University of Aberdeen Foundation before a larger than life group of Aberdeen alumni took part in the annual New York Tartan Day Parade up Sixth Avenue.

Marjory Harper, Professor of History at the University of Aberdeen, featured in a panel discussion on the Scottish diaspora as part of the Migrations Festival at the Carnegie Hall during Scotland Week in New York.

Professor HarperProfessor Harper gave illustrated talks on her fascinating research on Scottish migration to the US at the New York Genealogical Society and at a literary lunch at the University Club in Chicago hosted by Chicago Scots (Illinois Saint Andrew Society)

Earlier this month Aberdeen alumni also gathered at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles for a private view of its summer blockbuster exhibition The Book of Beasts featuring the Aberdeen Bestiary illuminated manuscript, and at an Andy Warhol retrospective at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

Liz Bowie, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, said: “Aberdeen is going places in America. We have a growing group of alumni volunteers, supporters and prestigious partners from East to West providing great opportunities to network.

“We have exciting plans for the year ahead and would encourage all our alumni living in the US to reconnect with us to hear more about upcoming events and gatherings.”

We will have plenty more activity coming up in the U.S. over the next few months so keep checking back for updates!
