Biography
MSc; BA (Hons); ADM; RM; RGN
I have been involved in Fertility Nursing since 1993, and Chair of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Midwifery & Fertility Nurses Forum from 2008-2011. I currently hold the position of Nurse Consultant (Fertility Preservation) within the Dept. of Reproductive Medicine and Registered Trainer in Pelvic Ultrasound (British Fertility Society). I am also an active member of the European Society for Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE) Nurses & Midwives Certification Committee.
I have always been perceptive to the development of a specialist training and educational framework for fertility nurses that would provide the basis for standardised job titles, role definition and quality of care, which led to the publication, ‘Training & Educational Framework for Fertility Nursing' (RCN, 2013/2018). Jointly, with the RCN Committee, I was involved in developing the 'Fertility Nurse Competences' - and review, (RCN, 2011) and was part of the RCN Advanced Nursing Practice project team, contributing to the position statement for regulation and standardisation at advanced levels of nursing practice for patient safety and public protection.
Overall, I have a specialist interest in exploring reproductive potential and decision-making within a variety of settings - including oncology - contributing to the RCN clinical professional resource 'Fertility Preservation' (2017). I have designed analysed and published several applied qualitative and clinical studies in reproductive health care, written several book chapters, have a national and international profile, and continue to support the Robert Gordon University in providing teaching sessions in Fertility and Reproduction for 3rd Year Midwifery Students.
