The University of Aberdeen is celebrating 500 years of the teaching of mathematics with a major expansion in its academic staff. Five Sixth Century Chairs have been appointed in mathematics in the last twelve months and four of these are specialists in Representation Theory: Professors Dave Benson, Meinolf Geck, Markus Linckelmann and Geoffrey Robinson. There have also been three other new appointments in this area. It has been decided to celebrate the events with a Conference in Representation Theory.
