H.E.L.P.- Humanitarian Educational Long-term Projects
Applications are open to all students of the Aberdeen University. It costs nothing to join us! There are 5 projects every year running for 4-6 weeks usually in Summer (or Easter for 3rd year Medics). Teams of 5-10 volunteers are selected by interview and on our induction day. One or two members of each team are selected to act as co-ordinators, to take on added responsibilities and liase with the committee. Each team member is required to raise between £170 and £450 (depending on the project). The HELP committee, who have all taken part in a HELP project before, will offer you full support and advice with fundraising and planning. The money raised includes food, accomodation and transport from the airport. In addition, if you specify what you are putting your money to, you can raise additional funds to cover your flight! |
Every volunteer must pay a deposit of £65 towards their group. This guarantees the volunteer's place. £50 will be repaid prior to the trip. The remainder of £15 pays for the volunteer's T-shirt and I.D. card. The deposit is non-refundable except in cases where a student needs to resit an exam in the summer.
Don't forget you have plenty time after your project to travel and experience the beauty of your destination. Although the project may involve hard work in sometimes challenging conditions, you will have an extremely rewarding and fulfilling experience: HELP is a unique way to get nearer the heart of a different culture. You will make friends for life, contribute a little to the most deserving of people, and broaden your horizons forever!
