Capoeira is a traditional Brazilian art form which combines music, dance, martial art techniques and creative physical exercise. Thus Capoeira is a way to encourage the development of musical and communication skills (from body to lyrical expression and interaction), as well as physical fitness (body control, agility and strength). It can help to improve the creativeness and self-confidence of individuals, while potentially improving the quality of life of communities. A key component in the practice of Capoeira is the roda (circle) of all participants, in which two people play the jogo of Capoeira next to the bateria of 2-8 people playing musical instruments. Capoeira is one of the fastest growing martial art forms in the world.
We find that in Aberdeen, Capoeira can be a great way to meet new people, train in something slightly different, and have a whole lot of fun!
