About Us

WHO ARE WE?
We are one of the longest-running Aberdeen University Student Societies, and have been in existence since 1976. Every year, we get together to rehearse and perform a Gilbert & Sullivan Operetta, staged at the Aberdeen Arts Centre.

Take a look at our constitution.

WHO CAN JOIN?
Full membership is open to students and non-students alike on payment of an annual subscription. The only restriction is that you must be at least 16 years old (for insurance purposes).

WHAT'S THE COST?
The annual subscription currently stands at £60 per member. This can be paid in 2 termly installments, or one lump sum up front.

An additional £10 returnable deposit is also required for hire of the neccesary music scores for each member.

AUDITIONS?
Everyone who wishes to take part in a production is required to endure a short audition. This is not nearly as scary as it sounds. The average audition lasts a whole 3 minutes! The idea of the audition is to ensure we have a good vocal balance. You will be branded either a 1st Soprano, 2nd Soprano, 1st Alto, 2nd Alto, 1st Tenor, 2nd Tenor, 1st Bass or 2nd Bass. Simple as that!!

Those wishing to be considered for a principal part will also be required to read a short extract from the dialogue. This will be provided at the time of audition.

WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE?
Rehearsals for our annual show begin at the start of the October University term, running till the following February. Full cast rehearsals will this year take place on Monday evenings from 7pm to 10pm, with additional principal cast rehearsals at mutually suitable times for those involved. There are also extra full-day Saturday rehearsals on selected weekends nearer the production dates, and additional evening rehearsals may be called if required.

WHAT'S THE RESULT?
An amazing show and lots of new friends!
