‘Copenhagen: Seal the Deal’

Series of events held by the Aberdeen University Student Association ahead of the United Nations Climate Change talks in Copenhagen


24th November – 5th December 2009

From Monday, 30th November till Friday, 4th December, the 'Hub' will host an exhibition and ‘Cycle’ to Copenhagen competition to raise awareness about the issues surrounding the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference beginning on December, 7th 2009 and the effects of climate change. We will give out tips on how you can get active and reduce your own carbon emissions.


This way the students at Aberdeen University will join their voices with people around the globe for a fair deal at Copenhagen, which will secure world agreement to make effective carbon cuts and ensure environmental justice for developing countries.


Tuesday, 24th November, 6pm, FN2 - ‘Grill the Minister: Road to Copenhagen’

Collaborative writing: a tool for democracy - come and share your views on the key ingredients of a global deal to limit climate change.
Students from across Britain are being asked to co-write a shared vision of how to combat climate change for the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC). Students will agree a statement of objectives (a manifesto), by holding an online vote on the best and most useful ideas put forward.NUS that will be published on 5 December.
A copy of the manifesto will also be presented to the Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Miliband, before he leaves for Copenhagen

 

Monday, 30th November, 5pm, NK6 - ‘What is at stake at Copenhagen?’


A panel discussion on what are the countries expectations from Copenhagen UN talks on Climate Change. Speakers involved are university’s leading researchers on Climate Change issues, namely professor Pete Smith, Dr. Michelle Pinard, Dr. Antonio Ioris, Dr. Sarah Dalrymple, Dr. Eva Krupp,Dr. Ben Davies and Louise Reid
