Welcome to my personal website. I’m a postgraduate mathematics student living in Aberdeen, Scotland. Information about my mathematical interests can be found on my mathematics page.
In addition to my mathematical pursuits, I enjoy hill walking, scrambling and other various forms of outdoorsy nonsense. Details of these exploits can be found on my mountain log.
Last, but by no means least, I love spending time with my awesome family. You'll see a bit of them in the following section.
Images from my wee clan
- A picture of me with a monkey on my back.
- My son does not abide the paparazzi.
- Yes, he used to be that little.
- A picture from the day we received a visitor.
- A touching picture from our wedding.
Some marginally interesting links
- The other Sha(u)n Baland, whose website is much more advanced than my own.
- A page about ghost signs in Fort Collins, Colorado. The one with the Coca-Cola bottle was commissioned by my great-grandfather. Another nice photo of it can be seen here.
- I practically grew up in the back seat of one of these boats.
- My favorite painting.
- Carl Sagan, presenter of Cosmos, the greatest television series of all time.
- Steven Wright, a guy who is pretty much on my wavelength.
- Mustafa’s Gemüsekebap, a kebab stand in Berlin. The the most entertaining site I’ve seen on the web. Notice how the little hut actually closes after hours!
- The page title is typeset in Helvetica, not Arial. To see why, please read this article. For examples, see this page. This guy took things a little too far.
- You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.
