13th Postgraduate Group Theory Conference

(23rd-25th June 2011)

This is the website for the 13th annual Postgraduate Group Theory Conference. This is an annual conference organised by PhD students for PhD students. The idea of the conference is that PhD students working in group theory and all related areas, (for example Hopf algebras, Lie theory, representation theory etc.), can meet each other and find out what each other are doing in a very relaxed environment.

The main content of the conference consists of 20 minute talks given by participants. All participants of the conference are encouraged to give a talk on a topic of their choosing. This may be focused on your research topic or on a topic of interest to you if you’re early on in your PhD. Please note that the conference will be finished by 12:00pm on Saturday the 25th of June.

It is customary that the PGTC also has two plenary talks from academics working in group theory. This year the plenary speakers will be

Prof. Stephen Donkin

University of York

Prof. Dr. Rebecca Waldecker

Universität Halle-Wittenberg

The conference will be held at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. This is the second year that this conference will be held in Scotland.

This year we have received support from the London Mathematical Society and the Edinburgh Mathematical Society. This will allow us to provide support for 50 participants based at any institution. However we have also received support from the Representation Theory Network Grant. This has allowed us to also offer support to 5 participants specifically from French and German institutions.

If you are interested in attending this conference then please send us an email at

  1. pgtc2011+uk@gmail.com if you are based at an institution not in France/Germany,

  2. pgtc2011+fr@gmail.com if you are based at an institution in France,

  3. pgtc2011+de@gmail.com if you are based at an institution in Germany.

We will then keep you informed of any new information we may receive, such as when funding decisions have been finalised, etc.

We gratefully acknowledge support from:
