Mammalian Physiology & Pharmacology (BM3001, 6 credits)

This course provides an introduction to related topics in mammalian neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, neuropharmacology and neurochemistry. It deals with the anatomy, physiology and pharmacology of the peripheral nervous system (including the neuromuscular junction and the autonomic nervous system), the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. The practical classes are designed to complement the lecture content and to develop laboratory skills. The course consists of 3 lectures per week and 1 laboratory session (lasting 9 hours) per fortnight, together with related tutorials/seminars, and is examined by continuous assessment of practical work, and essays, and a 3 hour written examination.

Pre-requisites : (AN2001 and AN2501) or (BC2002 and BC2502) or (PY2001 and PY2501)
