This introductory 1.5-hour ToolBook was composed by an interdisciplinary team (Aberdeen University Departments of Biomedical Sciences, Child Health and Obstetrics & Gynaecology) primarily for use in the medical curriculum. It uses images, diagrams and graphs extensively to impart basic concepts. It gives access to specialist extension material on Bone, Lung and Central Nervous System.

The early Sections cover fundamental anatomical aspects of growth and development:

  1. What is growth?
  2. How is growth described
  3. Patterns of growth
  4. Body length
  5. Body weight.
Two further Sections treat underlying physiological mechanisms and include staged, integrative summaries:
  1. Details of the growth process
  2. What affects growth?
The final two Sections concern clinical aspects of anthropometric method and pathology:
  1. How is growth measured?
  2. What can go wrong?

Features

  • Interdisciplinary treatment of the subject matter
  • Sections can be viewed independently (5 - 20 minutes, depending on topic)
  • Demonstrates the use of complex multi-media teaching material.

To run these programmes requires the updated TBKMM.SBK
( 11/03/93, Ver 1.53:04 ) and associated .DLL files to operate the .AVI files.

Make sure that the [TOOLBOOK] section of your WIN.INI file contains the entry:
StartupSysBooks=C:\TOOLBOOK\TBKMM.SBK
(or wherever you have put the TBKMM.SBK file)

It is also designed to operate using the following directory structure:

If the directories are not present in your directory tree it is advisable to create them and transfer the appropriate files to their proper directories.

  • C:\TOOLBOOK should contain BONEDEV.TBK, GRTHDEVC.TBK, LUNGDEV.TBK and GRTHHLP.TBK.
  • C:\TOOLBOOK\WORK\MOVIES should contain all the *.AVI files

You can alter the package to suit your own circumstances. All we ask is that you acknowledge any use you make of the material and send the authors any comments, improvements or suggestions.
