Recent Events and Activities involving ACREEFDuring 2010 members of ACREEF have participated in numerous external events including the following: In November 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation entitled “Effects of the European Emissions Trading Scheme on Activity in the UK Continental Shelf” in Aberdeen to the Energy Institute (Aberdeen and Highland branch). The meeting was attended by a range of industry representatives and others with an interest in the subject. In November 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation entitled “Prospective Activity in the Northern North Sea and other Regions of the UKCS” to a conference in Aberdeen on the Northern North Sea organised jointly by the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain. The conferences were attended by representatives of industry and government bodies interested in the future of exploration activity in the region. In November 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation entitled “Future Prospects for Activity Levels in the UKCS” in London to the World Junior Oil and Gas Congress. The Congress was attended by one current and one former Minister of the UK Government, and a large number of representatives from oil companies, bankers, private equity and other financial institutions. In September 2010 Professor Kemp travelled to New Zealand and gave a presentation entitled “International Trends in Petroleum Taxation and Regulations: What Lessons for New Zealand?” to a conference and exhibition entitled 2010 New Zealand Petroleum Conference. The event, organised by the New Zealand Government, was attended by around 500 people, mostly from the industry and relevant government departments. In July 2010 Professor Phimister presented initial results from the Rural ECMod project on the impact of EU Rural Development Measures, including support for renewable energy, on the Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire economy to staff from DG Agriculture and the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in Brussels.
In July 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation entitled “Economics of CO2 Transportation in the UK/UKCS” to a conference on CO2 Transportation in Newcastle, organised by the University of Newcastle. The conference was an interdisciplinary one and was attended by a large number of companies and academics with an interest in the subject. In May 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation on “Incremental Projects and the Future of the UKCS” to a meeting of the Society of Underwater Technology (SUT). The meeting was attended by a substantial number of contractors and oil company representatives. In March 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation entitled “Security of Oil and Gas Supplies to the UK” to a seminar in Stockholm held by the Swedish Network for Oil and Gas, a network organisation with membership from Swedish industry, government and academia. Over 150 attended the seminar. In February 2010 Professor Kemp gave a presentation entitled “Prospective Decommissioning Activity in the UKCS” to a meeting in Aberdeen, of the members of Decom North Sea, the trade association representing companies with an interest in decommissioning. In January Professor Kemp presented a paper entitled “Prospective Activity in the UK Continental Shelf to 2040” to a conference in London entitled Offshore Production: Maximising Growth through Innovation. The conference was attended by a large audience from a wide cross section of the petroleum industry including contractors. In January 2010 Professor Kemp presented a paper entitled “Security of Oil and Gas Supplies to the UK: a Historical Perspective” to a meeting in London of the research network on Energy Security in a Multi Polar World. This network is funded by EPSRC and ESRC and brings together researchers from academia and representatives of relevant government departments and industry.
