Published Descriptions & Nomenclature.
When we write formally about an animal most journals like us to introduce it with the binomial,
followed by the author who gave it the binomial, and the year the description and name were
published. We sometimes add the order and family as well.
e.g.
The soprano pipistrelle Pipistrellus pygmaeus Jones and Barratt, 1999 (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae),
or
The red wood-ant Formica aquilonia Yarrow, 1955 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae).
