Aims and purpose of the Zoology Museum:

Aberdeen University has the only large, international collection of zoological specimens in the north of Scotland. The Zoology Museum is responsible for the care and development of the University's collections of zoological specimens, for promoting their use for teaching and research within the institution and for enhancing the understanding and enjoyment of zoology by the general public. Full details of our Collecting Policy are available and a copy of our Museum Regulations may be downloaded in either WORD.doc or Adobe.pdf format.

The University of Aberdeen recognises the research potential of its museum collections. We acknowledge that, in some cases, knowledge can be gained through research which includes destructive sampling of items in our collections. These instances require special consideration on a case-by-case basis. You can download our destructive sampling procedure and application form.

In furtherance of our aims, members of the public are most welcome at the Zoology Museum. Please note that children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Entry is free but donations will help us to maintain and to develop our collections.
