Sea turtle research overview
Work on sea turtles in the Energetics group was initiated by Graeme Hays, who is now at the University of Swansea. We have continued the work started by graeme by looking at some physiological aspects of sea turtle behaviour in addition to continuing the work on thermal aspects of nest site selection in the context of temperature dependent sex determination.
Between 1999 ans 2003 two PhD students were working in the group (Sandra Hochscheid and Karen Reid) on turtle projects, both of which are based in the Mediterranean.
Karens research concerns the topic of nest site selection and Sandras research concerned physiologcial adjustments and metabolism of turtles. Sandra graduated in November 2003 and has moved to a permanent position in the Aquarium at Naples.
