The energetics research group were one of 4 research groups from across the UK shortlisted under the category "Best UK Academic Research Group" in the Laboratory News Industry Awards 2001.
John Speakman and Ela Krol attended the awards dinner and ceremony held at the Dorchester Hotel in London on the 29th October 2001.
