A persistently infected Rd cell line (piRD-3673 cells) has been derived following infection with serotype 5 CBV (isolate CBV-3673). The intracellular proteins of viruses released from different passages of piRD-3673 cells were charcterised by 2D-PAGE. Each of the viruses were inoculated into HEp-2C cells and the intracellular proteins radiolabelled as described in the Protocol section. This cell lysate was then analysed by 2D-PAGE. A characteristic alteration in the mobilties of two of the major intracellular virus proteins - p39 and p33 - was observed. The locations of these two proteins for CBV-3673 is shown in the left panel below and the righthand panel show virus released at passage number 10 of piRD-3673 cells; the positions of p39 and p33 are indicated by the blue arrows. Only a limited region of the complete 2D protein profiles is shown below.
