Modelled flood inundation patterns in the lower Finke Gorge

This Image shows a hillshaded digital elevation model of the lower Finke River Gorge.  Note how the Finke cuts across the main fold systems.   Flood inundation model results (blue) for an extreme event are superimposed.  Narrow gaps in ridges raise flood elevations causing backflooding of strike valleys.  Topographic data derived from TOPSAR interferometric radar provided by Melba Crawford, Univ. of Texas.   Area shown is about 15 x 20 km.
