Lower Finke Gorge

The lower Finke Gorge is very different to the deeply trenched upper Finke and Ellery Gorges.  Here, it cuts through thinly bedded and gently dipping sedimentary rocks, creating a wide valley.  The riverbed is about 300 m wide and is flanked by alluvial fan, floodplain and aeolian deposits.  The lines of trees in the channel (centre right) indicate linear bars.  Back
