Finke Gorge incised bedrock meanders.

 

The incised meander trains of the Finke Gorge are very unusual.  This image shows the main gorge (right) at an intersection with the secondary meander train.  It was photographed just after the 1988 flood when floodwater went through some of the lower secondary meanders as well as the main gorge.  This is a very rare event.  Main gorge is about 200 m wide.    Back
