Rob & Chris The "Ferrigno 2009/2010 team": Rob & Chris Griffiths in pyramid tent with all mod. cons.
Arrival Establishing camp in early November. It all looked so promising then...
K209 ...a promise that did not last long:

witness a typical Ferrigno scene...

K209 What passed for a nice day on the Ferrigno.
sun dog A "sun dog" spectacularly breaks through.
clouds ... before cloud starts closing in again...
tents Camp on a much nicer day. I always seem to take lots of photos of pyramid tents. Probably because there's not much else to photograph round here.
tents Well, here's a skidoo with its protective tarpaulin for a bit of variety.
radars Frankly, the real drama's 2 km below the ice surface. One of the main tools we deployed was radar systems towed in convoy behind skidoos. The radars are able to map out the structure of the ice and the bedrock below the ice stream.
gps Another principal component of the fieldwork was making GPS measurements of ice flow speed.
coring We also hand-augured several ice cores down to 20 m for accumulation histories.

Is that a smile or a grimace captured here...?

windbreak Easily the most valuable piece of field equipment on Ferrigno: the legendary windbreak. In this panel vital radar repairs are being effected behind its calm embrace.
