CS5550: Web Application Development

News: Unlike some other courses, we will have practical 0 from the first week. In this practical, you will learn how to setup the Ruby on Rails programming environment in your laptop or home PC.


The World Wide Web (WWW) has become a major part of many people's lives. We use it for communication, work, school, entertainment, and more. The goal of the course is to introduce basic principles and skills for programming of computer applications, in particular Web applications, including those driven by databases.

Lectures. Unless otherwise indicated, lectures are scheduled for Monday 10:00 - 11:00 (St. Mary G3) and Thursday 13:00 - 14:00 (St. Mary 105).

Practicals. There are practical sessions after the lectures. Unless otherwise indicated, practicals are scheduled for Friday 14:00 - 16:00 (Edward Wright F86).
