This week's work.

Monitor problems
When I went to switch on the projectors to show the system to Kevin MacKenzie (see below), the right hand monitor would not come on. After several pokes at Display setup, the monitor eventually recognised a feed. However, the resolution was not balanced between the two. Managed to get that sorted, but both Left and right were displaying at different brightnesses, destroying the stereo illusion. Note that this was manifesting through the projectors (as well as the monitors) suggesting that it was the graphics card that was maladjusted, not the monitors. For my part, at no point was I "Messing" with display brightness /contrast settings.
Image Album
Getting organised - created an album to allow me to page through all the available images on the system. This is about a day's work, which I thought worthwhile as it leaves me with a searchable database for quickly locating the files. Online, so that I can access it from Safari on the main computer
Object Listing/Comment Editor
Similar to above, but encompassing every object in the two directories. At the bottom of the page you can filter out only those formats you want to know about. There is a lot of inconsistency in file naming so some things might be missed eg: when it's called something.flt.06 - numeric extensions have been ignored since each Dicom will have a different number - and the likes. Clicking on any row takes one to edit the details of that record. However, processing password protected, so that only folk that have the password can make changes.
Stereo Microscopy
Met with Kevin yesterday. Initial talks, mainly about compatible file formats for stereo microscopy. He will be sending a DVD - examples of all the formats he can output from his software. I suspect we will end up using TIFFs as per How to : build a volume. In the meantime, he touched upon stereo monitors, and commented upon two. One which was fairly poor, the other which in Switzerland, he was impressed with. Thought I'd store them here: Info on 3D monitors

3D Models
This has been on hold all this week, and I will have to deal with it soon. Wrote and asked Neil for an update on progress.
Presentation
On Monday PM I must have a rehearsed, ready to go presentation of the equipment and its potential for the heads of the units at MediCal. This is intimidating me big time, since, these days, I am not used to pre-planning what I am going to say. On further reflection - I can talk for Scotland; I was a lecturer for twelve years. The problem is to stop me talking! - I think the real reason is I haven't been up at the Macs nearly enough getting profficient at "Driving". Guilt about that is what is worrying me.
Blender
02 October 2008: Received the Blender Guide I purchased. So maybe look at that over the weekend. I see Blender as the poor man's Maya. I would like to look at creating very simple geometric objects like the spinning photocube, and the likes. Maybe a stereo movie of a heart - depending on how time consuming a plausible result takes. I don't have time for tweaking or being baffled. In the past I used Animation Master extensively - Blender has the same functions with almost the same terminology, but the interface is completely different. I am hoping my past skills will be largely transferable. How likely is that?!
