So how do we keep the club going?
Well, apart from the enormous efforts of the committee, most of whom have probably been coerced into the positions they are in, and the fact that our instructors do it for love not money, every year AUSAC receives a monetary allocation from the University Sports Union as part of its aim of supporting sport for all, as well as a membership fee from everyone joining. This is what keeps the club alive, but it is not the whole story by any means. The costs of running the club and servicing all our equipment would far exceed the amount the average student could afford to pay in membership if we did not make efforts to seek additional help. For an idea of what it will cost you as a member, please look over the training pages.
Additional funding comes from several sources, and is largely due to the efforts of club members in either getting out and fund raising or speaking to the right people for support. We have our sponsors whose links can be found at the top of the page, and who help us out a great deal with discounted services and supplies, as well as regular dealings with several other organisations around the country. Try the links page for more details. We also apply on a regular basis to money from the university's Alumni Annual Fund, allocated via the Sports Union for safety related equipment. This has paid for items such as our oxygen kits and marine radios, and comes as its name suggests from generous donations by university alumni, (Click here for details).
Other funding comes directly from the efforts of club members through organised or sponsored events, which can also be used to raise money for charity. In 2006 for example we raised £400 for The ARCHIE Fund at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, (Click here for details). You'll find some ceilidh pictures in the links pages. In essence, it is the efforts of everyone in the club that keeps it alive.
