Polyphyletic Taxa.

The class Aves (birds) is monophyletic: all living birds are descendants of a lineage of dinosaurs that branched off, in the Jurassic (from 150 to 200 million years ago), into various subclasses of feathered bipeds. The Neornithes, or modern birds, are the surviving representatives of this ancestral line.
