The Relationship between Taxonomy and Phylogeny.
It is often pointed out that Linné's taxonomic levels agree closely with those used by systematists today. Linné was no evolutionist; at least, his classifications were not intended to reflect evolutionary lineages. Nevertheless they do. This seems to show that for the most part, the characteristics that he chose to distinguish between groups betray real phylogenetic relationships.
