Molecules Continued

Many phylogenetic relationships are controversial, for example that between Macrochiroptera (fruit bats) and Microchiroptera, or between rodents and lagomorphs; these problems are usefully addressed through molecular studies. In general, molecular investigation is valuable for re-evaluation of polyphyletic taxa such as the order Insectivora (Mammalia) and the class Reptilia. It can also reveal polyphyletic groups, like the kingdom Monera whose organisms are now split between two domains, Bacteria and Archaea.
